The Ball Company

Steel Balls Drucken PDF

Steel balls are usually provided in three different types:

Low carbon:
Only the marginal zone is hardened while the core zone remains soft. Applications for these balls are, for instance, slow moving bearings, drawing slides, spray cans etc.

High carbon:
The second type of steel balls are through-hardened steelballs. The marginal zone and the core zone are equally hardened.
In many areas, such balls have replaced chrome steel balls because of their lower price.

Chrome balls:
The third type are chrome balls with a large proportion of chromium. Some of the most common applications are precision bearings.

The material specification of the various types is listet in our reference sheet.

Steel balls are not resistant against corrosion!
